Default Used or rebuilt 01-03 non Nikasil engine

Hello fellow x308 lovers,

I was wonder if anyone had any leads on used or rebuilt non-Nikasil engines? I have the dreaded cylinder blow-by on my 00 xjr and want to get the cat running like she used too. If anyone has any opinions or leads I’m all ears and appreciate the help!

I don’t have any answers for a replacement engine but, give us more details on this cylinder blow by and maybe we can help you out. How many miles, have you had the car a while, what occurred to have this issue all of a sudden, etc.

When I hear ‘cylinder blow by’, I think of borewash.

Sorry I could’ve been more clear. I have an 00’xjr with only 76,000Km. I’m getting oil in my air box and blue smoke on start-up after hard acceleration. I say oil blow-by based more on what I’ve been told, than know.

My first thought is that the ‘part load breather’ is clogged shut.

You have to disconnect this plastic pipe ***and it will likely break*** if it’s the original one and you aren’t careful. There is a small hole inside that valve cover that needs to be cleared out with a particular size drill bit.

I carefully use one of these small flathead screwdrivers to insert at that connection and rotate the screwdriver handle *not the pipe* to gently unseat the pipe from the valve cover. Patience will be your best friend when removing this pipe. A 3/32” drill bit with a pointy needle nose vise grip will be needed. This procedure will prevent oil from being injected onto your air filter and into your intake causing excessive oil consumption. Replace the air filter after you do this procedure.
