Default Value question......

So yes im a licensed wholesale dealer.... so I buy and sell cars all the time but..... I buys Jags for myself. 7 months ago I bought my Silver 99 XJ8. I have put 6000 miles on it so it stands at 128K, 2 small door dings, no paint work, interior is very nice, normal leather cracking from the AZ sun, broken cup holder screwed shut by the previous owner. Headliner was replaced by the previous owner and wasnt done great but how much do you look at your headliner.

Anyway, car runs perfect, no leaks, great tires, tensioners replaced, albeit with plastic ones but still, 3 owner car, im the 3rd owner, clean Autocheck.

Now my question.........

Ive had the car listed here in AZ on Cragislist for over a month now. Had 2 phones and only one guy look at it for his wife who then told me she wanted a baby Jag not a full size one. Well I have the car listed for $4500 or best offer.

Lesser quality ones are available cheaper.....VDP's are listed for $1000-2000 more which they should be. I think wanted $4-4200 from this car in this condition is fair. What do you guys think ? If I had a car lot it would be a slam dunk but I live in the country 50 miles from Phoenix and 50 miles from Tucson so unless your selling a truck or a combine nobody wants to travel to see it.

that seems like a fair price, I guess the right person hasn't seen your ad yet.

I was trying to sell a 2001 Lincoln LS, 120,000 miles, 1 owner, in perfect condition, full service history on craigslist in my area and only got one email, it was advertised for 2 months.

In all truth a lincoln LS is not as desirable as an XJ at all in my view, but I guess people just don't have as much interest in the older, higher mileage, luxury car as we would hope.

cars.com or autotrader or something like that could be a good next step, I think they refund you if your car doesn't sell within 3 months or something like that

Good luck with your sale

It seems fair to me. Someone will come along eventually. It took me nearly 4 months to sell my old xjr, but when the right buyer came along they wanted it really badly.

The prices vary so much depending on the time of year, location, how many others are listed etc. I saw a 98 XJ8 go for 8k here locally because it had a mountain of service records and had a lot of work done to it recently. I've seen them go as cheap as $2600 too. $4500 is a good deal imo, just keep waiting, she'll find a home. Do you have any pictures of the interior?

It might just be a bad time of year to sell a car. You know, bills from the holidays and people waiting for their tax refunds...
