Question Vibration from sump area / torque converter ?

Hi there .

I have an x308 xj8 that is making a vibration / hum / from the front of engine /sump area. I have had it checked out and my excellent mechanic is saying it's probably worth looking at the torque converter first. The hum is when the engine is warm and in neutral as well as when moving and starts at about 3000 rpm. It has a sound like a bit of metal trim is vibrating or a bearing is going if that makes any sense. There are no knocks at all although the transmission does feel a bit 'lurchy' sometimes. I only ask as most threads on torque converters seem to describe knocking and quite violent symptoms. If anyone has any ideas what this might be I would be very grateful for input. The car is very low mileage indeed ( 32k ) so am quite perplexed that something major would be happening so early.

Kindest regards to you all.

Since many TSBs are VIN specific you should at least give a clue to the MY you are asking about.
There is a TSB (100-21) that describes the noise you are hearing but I don't know what car you have so I won't waste time posting it.

There was a NORTH AMERICAN TSB 100-21 to advise us to install a revised oil pump if conformation of the noise was determined.

Your car falls within the VIN range.

Might be your problem?

I though motorman was just a shortened moniker.
I am referred to as motor dude on another forum by another member from time-to-time.
