I noticed that there is not much information on the W5A580 transmission (Used in the XJR & XKR, also in Mercedes Benz, Chysler,etc).

I was trying to find a DIY on the W5A580 transmission covering the removal & install steps with instructions and photo.

I was not successful, but I did find a PDF file on the W5A580 Service Manual.

Covers Condition, Possible Causes, and Correction.

Transmission Removal Instructions start on page 40 thru page 43.

Transmission Assembly starts on the bottom of page 50 thru page 58.

Transmission Install Instructions start on page 59 thru page 63.

Transmission Specs start on page 85.

The PDF files has 199 pages.

There are schematics and Diagrams.

Shifter components listed and diagrammed.

Valve Body Service and components and diagnoistics.

Torque Converter testing and information near the end of the PDF file.

I just did another search, but this time I used the Internet Explorer find function with the search terms on the Sticky HOW To Threads in the XJ8/XJR and the XK8/XKR forums section - Search terms, W5A580, Transmission, XJR, XKR.

I also tried General Tech section - Large Files Area thread - no W5A580 Transmission Repairs.

I know that the XJR/XKR W5A580 is a much more reliable Transmission than the ZF5HP24 that is in the XJ8/XK8.

Maybe that is why we have the Transmission Repair Manual and Transmission Parts Catalog for the ZF5HP24 for these vehicles.

Anyway I think this thread should be added to the 2 subforums Sticky How to threads and also the Large Files offsite thread.
