Well I found a few REALLY old JLM21323 modules with C1095 written on them in my pile-o-parts and cut one open. The pump motor solder joints failed so I re-soldered. It takes about 5 minutes to 'saw/crack-open' a module and another 3 or 4 minutes to solder the pins (Weller 130/90 Watt gun). Then apply a 3mm bead of RTV along the edge on the case and slap the cover back on.

Put it in the vise overnight and it's ready to go.

Once the module is removed from the vehicle (if you have done this 40 or 50 times) and you can't do it in less than half an hour you need to find another line of work. The first time is kinda nerve wracking if a new one is almost $2000 but 'back-in-the-day' when there were dozens lying all over the Jaguar Dealer shop floor next to every ones work area, you just don't care if you damage one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I would clear the C1095 before I 'call it repaired' so I pulled my wife's 2001 XJ8 into the shop to clear the DTC (all 2001 XK/XJ 4.0 onward use the JLM21323 9 blue solenoids).

I pulled the harness and motor plugs from the installed module and shoved the repaired module into the space between the ABS block and left headlamp. I plugged the repaired module into the pump motor/car and hooked up WDS.

When I turned on the ignition switch the display said "INCORRECT PART FITTED".

The modules don't like sitting in boxes for 8 or 10 years and seem to loose the configuration so they probably don't still have the C1095 DTC??????

In any case I just went to the WDS setup and config tab and reconfigured the ABS module as a NEW MODULE and it was 'happy'.

I have boxes of these modules so if you want to try another module in place of the one you have to at least eliminate the C1155 I can send you one to try. I used to sell repaired modules on eBay a decade ago but everyone knows how to repair them these days.

Let me know if you can't get an answer from the repair shop about the module.

I have another module coming in a couple of days from ASI to try. If that doesn't work out, I will take you up on your module.
I completed all the tests outlined in the shop manual to diagnose the problem and it points to the module. There isn't any play in the wheel bearing and the exciter ring is clean and crack free, etc. It has to be the module. But I rarely have a straight forward problem. There is usually drama.
Thanks for your help. I should have more results by Thursday.

Default RESOLVED!

I received another rebuilt ABS module from ASI today. Popped that sucker in like Motorman suggests. Tucked it in behind the headlight and connected it up.

Turned on the ignition and got:
  • Low Brake Fluid
  • ASC Not Available
  • TRAC Not Available
So, based on what Motorman has taught us, this module has been on the shelf for a while.

I connected my WDS and reset/configured the new-to-me ABS Module to my XJR. Bazinga! The error warnings stopped. The reset happened much faster than I expected. So fast that I did not believe it had happened at first.

I took the XJR for a drive and there were no more ABS warnings, TRAC warnings or ABS light.

Hallelujah!

I want to thank everyone for their input and a special thanks to Motorman for the education concerning ABS modules and for direction.

So the problem was identified and confirmed to be an internal failure of my original ABS module. It will be shipped to ASI tomorrow to become a core.

The WDS definitely feels a bit prehistoric. Windows 98 adds to the clunkiness, but like you said, it gets the job done.
Sometimes it takes me much longer to get the WDS up and functional than it does for it to pull the DTCs.

I am glad it still works and this ABS drama is over for now.
