Default What is this part near oil filter?

Mine may be leaking oil

A metal nut with a black electrical connector plugged into it.
On the side of where the oil filter attaches. See photo.

Thanks!

Bolt next to filter

Boy if there was ever proof of the need of a box end ratchet, that's the spot.

....btw, nice oil filter redesigning, does it flow better?....lol

It is the OIL TEMP SENSOR. The AJ27 engines have the TEMP SENSOR but the AJ26 engines only have the oil pressure switch.
The thread is 18mm. The oil switch is 10mm(or 12mm?)
The oil pressure switch is located next to the temp sensor but more toward the crankshaft.(with a single wire)

Sorry about the temp and pressure mixup.

Carnival Kid is correct. The lower/outer switch is for oil pressure.

The temp sensor is higher up and tucked closer to the crank.

I just looked at a 4.0 AJ27 I have on an engine stand.

I took that photo after oil drained & was having much difficulty removing my old oil filter. (I posted re which oil filter wrench to buy since mine was not working well)

Thanks! I wonder if I can just replace the P/N #15 sealing washer JWV110004?

https://www.ebay.ie/itm/JAGUAR-Genui...sAAOSwAO9ZTCWS

This may not be the source of the leak but may be an easy troubleshoonintg step since I cannot see any oil leaking from above the oil pan dripping down onto the oil pan.

I replace the oil pan gasket 1 year ago with genuine Jaguar part & it only goes in one way & I am sure I positioned it correctly. I switched to Mobil 1 high mileage oil.

After the change I had a reoccurrence of the leak which went away in a month & 6 months later started up again. I can now see fresh oil all along the back of the oil pan. My old oil filter was on VERY tight & my drain bolt was also tight so doubt it is either of those.
After I changed oil & filter (always use a new genuine Jaguar drain plug, never reuse. Always genuine Jag filter.) I saw leak next few days & today it may have stopped but I doubt it. It probably leaks constantly, very little & accumulates & only sometimes drops on my driveway (I place cardboard to catch oil drops). Cannot say whether a long drive makes it leak more vs. less.

This is not my main car anymore. Most days I just move Jag from driveway to street & later back again to driveway (no overnight street parking allowed) Need driveway clear to access my other cars.

I think I posted about my oil pan gasket change I will search.

I found my old post:
“Synthetic Oil Causes Gaskets to Soften, Leading to Oil Leak”
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...l-leak-202163/

My post # 35 has pic of oil pan. So did not see fresh oil back then!
My post # 38 has details & photos of gasket change & oil pan b4 cleaning

I did not take any pix of the new gasket in place. I wish I did.
