Question Wheel Arch Liner - Where to get Snap Fixings ? - Resolved

I have some rust work to take care off on the front wheel arches, near where the mud flaps fix. To get to it I realy need to remove the wheel arch liners. No big deal in itself but to put it back requires new fixings.

I pulled out one of the Snap in fixings to have a look at them. Since they seem get destroyed when you pull them out I am going to need new ones to put it all back together after the works done.

Does any one know where I can get these specialist Snap in fixings in the UK ?

Fixing looks like this with 1" dia washer/head.

YES - your nearest Jaguar Dealer.

These are not expensive fixings in the UK.

Having now installed JEPC I found that the part no. is KRB100002.

Its on sale in the USA : Jaguar Skid Plate Pin, XJ6/XJ12/XJR/XJ8 (95-03)

But not stocked at www.jaguarclassicparts.com or David Manners. They offered to supply alternative part XR88883 at £2.53 + VAT each , but I can't find a picture to compare with. Since there are 16 on the car thats £48. Quite a bit of loot for plastic fixings.

As you are in Worcestershire in the UK, sourcing fixings in the US is probably your most expensive option given the carriage cost and the possibility of UK Customs Inspection charges. Aftermarket suppliers such as David Manners cannot make sufficient profit margin on this kind of item to make it worthwhile to stock. This leaves you with the Jaguar Dealer unless you want to adapt some other fixing.

There's four types of fixings used on the front Wheelarch Liner with a total of eleven on each:

Jaguar X308 - Front Wheelarch Liner.pdf

I've usually found two or three need replacement whenever the Liner is taken off and have never had to replace a full set. Removed carefully, they are re-useable.

The wing liner itself is a costly item and risking damage by missing fixings or using the wrong ones makes for a whole lot more loot.

I did just try my local Jaguar main dealer, Stratstone in Solihull. He wanted over £4 + VAT for each XR88883 !! I will have hunt around my electronics suppliers websites, RS & Farnell, they have lots plastic rivets but finding the correct size is not easy. Although you can get bag of 25 for £5.

Default Plastic Fixing for body parts

ALL these type of fixings are available from "PepBoys" or similar Auto Suppliers. Only just bought some 2 weeks ago. Houston Location
You probably broke them because the center section has to be withdrawn prior to pulling out. SORRY when I originally read this did not realise you were across the pond.
IF you REALLY get stuck, drop me a line. How many do you need. ??? Just done this exact job recently on my 1999 XJ8

Yes its difficult with these plastic fixings. If you find one your not familiar with. Until you get one out you can't be sure of the best way to extract it. Do you twist it, pull it or just cut the head off ?

Pretty sure PepBoys will be local to you somewhere in the USA but was there any sort of part number that might get a google hit with a UK supplier ?

Hi
Update: Rock Auto Parts.com sells these fasteners (URO Krb100002) - XJ (X308) for $0.46 each - 16 of them cost $7.36 plus shipping to UK about $21.00 - total about $29 (£18.36). Shipping to USA - East Coast would be $9.37 (about $18 total).

I noticed on Ebay UK that there are Land Rover Wheel Arch fastners (packet of 10) for £5.39 free P&P to UK (Ebay UK listing 330349974158) Part# ANR2224 - not sure they fit XJ.

Try internet UK sites with search term wheel archliner clips or rivets.

I found these on ebay ("FORD FOCUS FIESTA TRANSIT WHEEL ARCH LINER INNER CLIPS FIXINGS FASTENERS 10X" - Item No. 140808617841) when looking for "wheel arch clips". They look similar but can't be sure of the size.

I think fasteners of this type show up on searches for "body shop supplies" or "body shop fasteners" or "auto body fasteners." I find it (almost) hard to believe that Jaguar would have used fasteners utterly different from any of the common ones.

Don't worry about sending from the US. I have resorted to a hit and hope approach on ebay. I got some ford Focus rivets as mentioned above but they were to big. They needed an 8mm hole rather than the 6.5mm or 1/4" on the Jag. I am currently waiting on these BMW parts which should fit, even if the heads are a bit smaller. 10x BMW Wheel Arch Lining Splashguard Rivet Trim Clip | eBay

Having made a tool to get these rivets out I managed get most out with destroying them. The tools is just a slot cut in the end of 3/4" wide strip of 1/16" steel then bent over and held in a mole grip. The tools fits under the head of the plastic rivet and allows you to yank it out without chewing it up.

Ah ha..... I looked up TerryR's fixing and found this suppliers info :

Dorman Motormite 47972 Body Fasteners, Specialty Rivets - Outdoor store

It seems they are a Ford part, or equiv. I thus tracked them down on ebay using the ford part no. TRIM CLIPS X 10 TO FIT FORD N804837S | eBay

Got there in the end !! Thanks Terry.

Hi Terry
I am posting this Ebay listing (listing# 140620340958) for the forum members here in the continental United States on these Ford rivets.

Listing says 15 pieces of Ford Retainer Clips for $5.00 with free shipping.
