A friend asked me to do his chains on his XJ8 (4.0l non SC). But I'm a little insecure on whether or not his car is affected. His car is from 99 and the last 6 digits of the VIN are 877953.

I've read things like from August 2001 but also in the 2000 model year etc.

Before we buy parts and start work for no reason, I just want to make sure...

Damien, it was done by engine number, not VIN, iirc, it was some time in August 2000.


As you probably know the engine number is the time and date it was built, I had a quick look, but cannot find the engine number that was the first.

 

Found it.....The metal tensioners are from August 13 2001.


Engine Number 010813xxxx (YYMMDDHHmm) Year, Month, Day, Hour, minute.

 

Cheers mate! Nor al companies would do it via VIN...

So I doubt this 99 will have them...

 

But we are talking about Jaguar here, they do a lot of things **** backwards when it comes to updating things.


It is all done by engine build date, NOT the date the engine was stuffed into the chassis!
