Should the Hazard Warning Switch illuminate on a 2000 model XKR
Hi
I'm in the process of replacing some bulbs on the controls above the radio.
They all illuminate apart from the Hazard Warning switch. This has a working white bulb and flashes a red light when the switch is pressed as the switch cover is red.
Seems strange there's no illumination like on the other switches.
Just wondering if anyone can check this out.
Please note it's a UK car, not sure if US is any different.

Mine is the same, so I am interested also......Mike
My Hazard Warning switch illuminates at half brightness when the parking lights are turned on. Then, when the Hazard Warning switch is depressed, the light alternates between full brightness and off, in synchronization with the exterior warning lights.
It's just as VinceCh said. If the hazard switch bulb is good but you get no night illumination, it means the circuit board behind the switch has gone and the only solution is to replace the whole switch panel assembly. I had the same problem and managed to get a working one reasonably cheaply from flea bay.

You can change the switch illumination bulbs, not a big job. Open up the switch pack module and you'll see the little bayonet bulbs in the back of the circuit board. An eighth of turn and they come out.
Half the time they just need a clean or Jag dealers have the bulbs as I ordered one last week. Part number is LNA5180CA.
Thanks for the info. I'll go with the assumption the circuit board has a fault. Not sure yet whether it would be worth replacing the whole thing but would be a shame as I have everything stripped down.

I supposed it's where you want to draw the line.
Thanks

I opened mine up about ten years ago and changed all the bulbs. Still all working fine.
The Hazard light should illuminate, mine does. My AC and Auto buttons didn't used to illuminate then one day my Hazard lights were stuck on, so I jabbed at the button and since then the AC and AUTO light up blue and bright! I'm going to take it apart and clean it all up and replace all the bulbs when I get time. My J gate also doesn't light up, only the Drive letter. Thats got bulbs soldered to a board though.
I'm in the process of sorting this all out. I makes sense to change all the bulbs. Some of them you can buy from Farnell or RS Components, mainly the ones you will be soldering but the others you're best getting from Jag but they're £5 each so you might want to reconsider. I thought about it and then when I added them all up I changed my mind.
Regarding my hazard switch as per this thread I assume there's a fault with the circuit board which doesn't illuminate the switch but is does come on an flash when pressed. I checked the circuit and think there's two feeds to this switch bulb, one for the hazard and the other illumination.
What I'm hoping to try tonight is feed an extra bulb into the hazard switch for the illumination which will just feed off another illumination bulb.
In theory it should work.
Regarding the J-Gate I almost ready to do that, not looking forward to it.
