...(or the smell of gasoline or something burning) and realize it’s the car next to you!

I had that same sinking feeling when a strong odor of fuel came up just last weekend. Found out it was the truck in front of me on the highway. WHEW!!

It’s happened to me a couple times lately but with my Series III. I’ve had some leaking gas issues and I was driving home and smelled the distinct smell of gasoline. I thought, “What now!?,” and pulled over to investigate. No gas leaks. So thankful it was the car in front of me!

I know about the series lll and their issues with fuel switchover valves. I can understand your concerns with that. I always carry a fire extinguisher with my old cars.

Yes, the changeover valve got clogged and caused fuel to overflow. So did one of my return valves. AND a couple of my newly installed fuel lines in the engine started leaking when the clamps loosened. So I’m always mindful of the smell of fuel. I carry a fire extinguisher in all my cars.
