Where do you buy your parts? The dealer wants $383 for a MAF sensor. I'm wondering if anyone uses online companies that have OEM parts more reasonable.

Shop around on Ebay Motors. I usually get my parts from sellers on that site.

Default parts sources...

Mr Gardens,
I agree it pays to shop around. I've found good deals on ebay and even amazon but I usually start with FCPEuro. They'll tell you if it's OEM, the OEM supplier, or just a part that will fit. I've used Rock Auto for a few things as well but I ran into an issue with a beemer part I ordered that didn't fit and returning to them was a hassle. I'm not sure if Jags do the "in the middle of the model year" part changes like BMW so it may not be an issue.

I use both RockAuto and www.britishparts.co.uk for both the VDP and XJR-100 religiously. I find ordering parts out of the UK is cheaper in many instances - just remember that you'll have to pay duty when they cross the border.

This is important as nowadays the term "OEM" is tossed around *****-nilly. It doesn't mean anything unless you can really nail down the seller as to *exactly* what you are buying.

Cheers

Are you sure you need one? Mine read a reading of that sensor, cleaned it (GENTLY) on the probe, sprayed the cleaner into all connectors, let dry. Put in new air filter, so far the lite is staying off, & cash the is still staying in my pocket.I had some cleaner made for computer boards, (NO) oil based products at all as you will need a new one then. They run about $80 at O'Rileys, with your old one for to avoid a core charge.Hope this helps.

+1 as well, even I buy from them, being a whole Pacific Ocean away from them.
They don't have each and every part, but a nice selection, plenty of alternatives as per your likening, and they are much cheaper.

Don't forget SNG Barratt. They're forum sponsors too, so you should get a nice little discount

shop around on ebay, or buy some MAF cleaner to try first, and clean the contacts with contact cleaner not endorsing this one, but this will get you to an area on ebay

I always start with an online dealer -- Getting the price for the known correct part is the wise first move. This way one understands what savings are achieved given the various trade offs going another route.. Most dealers online are 20% off list.

With Jaguar being a limited producer -- replacement parts available on the open market are fewer vs other makes. The flip side is .. Jaguar used off the shelf parts form other makes in some cases -- they are available if you know the original source.

How do you know you need a MAF? Normally very reliable. I don't remember anyone posting a picture or number for the actual sensor inside -- would bet it's a Denso.

There is nothing wrong with Rock Auto. Just be careful and understand what you are buying. Rock Auto is a selling site -- can be the same source as another online retailer.

I purchased an exhaust for my old Pathfinder ...name brand aftermarket. The parts would have been the same from any source -- Rock Auto was the cheapest.

A few weeks ago the alternator failed in one of my old MB's. Normally rebuildable .. mine was toast. I had to do a bit of sleuthing in order to find the proper OE Valeo replacement ... the aftermarket stuff is junk as it's almost all from China .. the dealer wanted $800.00. I called Valeo technical direct and was able to get the correct replacement using the second set of numbers on the part. Was able to order this through Rock Auto using the direct part search -- it did not come up as the proper replacement. Allowed me to get the proper european manufactured part for $260 .. about 100 more vs the cheap stuff from China and about 1/3 of the cost from he dealer.

Rock Auto is a good source. But if more than one part is ordered, from more than one location, orders can become a bit more pricey.

A little late to the party, but its a good future reference. This site is a web crawler for automotive parts...http://frugalmechanic.com/ ....it doesn't always find the part, but when it does, it shows usually about 5-10 sources, cost, shipping and listed in value order.
Other than that, I have a number of sites I go to, including Rock Auto for reference. Be sure to not just use Google (which I don't like), use Bing and other search engines. They all bring up different results.
