Default Where is middle brake light wiring connector? 2000 xj8 vdp L

Got my chrome wing on the front bumper installed, waxed the grille, and fixed both headlight surrounds yesterday. Now focused on this middle brake light. It’s laying on the rear deck, and has a dozen cracks.

My solution is to build a box for it to sit in, resting and held steady by dowel rods, felt stickers to prevent any rattling, and to use chip wood as a filler on the rear facing plane. I found a cherry minwax that is pretty close to my interior wood moulding.

For this to be halfway decent looking and fitting, I need to remove the brake light and build the box around it. I don’t see a connector when I pull the wire. Before I uninstall my subwoofers in the trunk, to look for a connector above the gas tank, I’m wondering where the connector should be.

ive read that some don’t have connectors, so maybe mine doesn’t. The ones that I’ve seen for sale have a connector after maybe 6” of wire. I can pull maybe 9”, but no connector. So... maybe these were added?

basically, if I do have a connector, where should it be?

thanks!

It's below the rear parcel shelf.

For the OP...you will have to remove the right seat belt retractor to angle the shelf finisher out. The seat belts have to be released at the bottom and then threaded through the slots at the top of the seat back cushion as you remove it. Helps if someone can help you muscle the seat cushions around and out.
