This is a common failure point with the transmission and should always be checked if the fluid level is low. On many MB's with the 5 speed trans the fluid will actually wick through the harness and saturate the TCM located in the forward engine bay. You will see no evidence of a leak -- but the control module housing will be filled with fluid -- it obviously does not like this situation.
Thats why at the first sign of any trouble the box needs to be looked at - it can be a simple $35.00 part and some fluid causing the problem.

Go to benzworld.org and then go to the w210 section -- they have a sticky on the fix and a wealth of information on the transmission. This is the E320 and V8 variants from the 1996 to 2003 (wagon) -- first car to use this transmission.
You want to get the OE part - no aftermarket. Numerous failures on the non -OE part. Mercedes only sells the updated part with O rings.
