Default will a 2003 3.9 ls v8 work in my 99 xjr.4.0

just got a seized 4.0 xjr8l. I am looking for a replacement engine. I found a salvage 2003 Lincoln ls with a 3.9. what issues does the variable timing present? can I just not use it and use the 4.0 intake and ecm?
thanks in advance

People put CHEVY engines in Jaguars.
People put Aircraft Engines in cars.

With enough time and money, most anything is possible.
I don't know what car you have? (xjr8l) Is it XJ8 or XJR? Is it a Long Wheelbase?

I would just find a compatible AJ26 or AJ27 (you did not specify a MY) and install it.
There are thousands of good used engines in salvage yards across the land.

Why complicate your life with unnecessary work and redesign.

The 2 engines are SIMILAR but not the same.

my bad on the name it is a 99 xj8l which I believe has a aj27 in it. I don't see many lower mile 4.0 engines at a decent price. that is why I am looking at the 2003 3.9. ls v8. I know anything can be done with time and money I put a 5.7 ls1 v8 in a fiero once. I don't want to go through that much work I am looking for a bolt in with few mod if necessary.

Long block would probably come close with parts swap. There have been discussions on this subject.

ANY 4.0 AJ27 normally aspirated from 1999-2003 X308 or 1999-2002 X100 will bolt in without modification.

Even the later engines (2002-2003 4.0 liter) with 'silent-running-chains' are bolt-in ready. All the sensors are compatible.

You can 'adapt' the AJ26 to operate correctly with some modification.
