Default Windshield wiper do not work properly

Started today: Wiper works just at full speed and when disconnect, it stops immediately to the position where is it and need exact timing to get it back to the right position. The normal speed do not work at all. If anybody has experience with this, was it faulty wiper motor, wiper stalk or maybe something else? This is a problem which needs to be fixed soon.

Swap the relays (they are on the left side, just aft of the radiator, two little twin black boxes). If it now works on slow, intermittent, and wash, it is the relay.

Found this. Sounds like a motor fault:

I had this problem on my 98 XJR, in my case it was grease that had spilled onto the big white gear wheel with the contacts for park position. It was just a case of carefully lifting up the black top cover off of the wiper motor just enough to be able to look inside with a mirror and clean with some contact cleaner and a cotton wool bud. Be careful not to stretch the wires that go through the black lid.

I am having a problem with the windshield wipers on my 1997 Jaguar XJ6. They do not work at all when I try any of the settings. However, every time I start the car they do one swipe across the windshield and immediately stop. They then resume the non-working mode and will not move at all unless I turn the car off and restart it. As you can guess, this makes it impossible to drive in the rain at all. Any suggestions would be very greatly appreciated. I have my fingers crossed that it is something that I can do myself because I really cannot afford another major repair at this time. Thank you!

Change both relays. If same as X308, right behind radiator on left upper side, two black boxes.

I second the "switch relays" test suggestions here. I had same, switched relays and discovered one was faulty. $15 later and all back to normal.

Cheers

Just wanted to add another note, if it helps others in the future with a non functional wiper.

Fuses OK, relays swapped, relays click, wiper stalk fine, etc. Even went so far as to check the voltage at the connectors and relays.

Turns out, there was actually slight corrosion at the plug connections at the motor which was hardly noticeable. A last minute ditch effort after I noticed a little 'green corrosion' made me try contact cleaner and a paperclip to clean which resulted in a fully operational wiper!

Makes me wonder if there are other connections out there which might need the same treatment....
