Windshield wiper keeps running

I have a 1999 XJ8L, the windshield wiper runs after turning off the switch. After much fiddling around turning the car on/off, turning the switch on off, it will finally stop running. Can anyone tell me what is needed to remedy this situation? The wiper switch itself seems to be in perfect order. Is there a relay or something? Please reply....thank you.

Check (swap) the relay.

If relays dont work, then u need a wiper motor assembly,
run/stop switch is internal in assembly.

What about the switch on the column? Is it possible that contacts in the switch could be dirty, thus, not sending the proper signal to the motor? I had a problem with the steering wheel tilt switch. It only wanted to work occasionally. I shot some electrical contact cleaner into it and it immediately solved the problem.
