Angry X308 Seat adjustment switch connector broken

Hi all!

My seat adjustment switch connector has melted/torn/both? The wiring is open and one of the wires has separated entirely. Seat adjustment works until the wires inevitably make contact and pop the 5A fuse for the switch.

How would I go about fixing this? Is it a standardized plug I can replace? If so: does anyone know the right part numbers for the plug and/or pins? Or am I looking at repairing this one somehow?

If nobody can help I'll use this thread to keep up with my own findings as I try to repair this, for future owners running into the same problem

If it were mine I would try to find that connector at a salvage yard and then
solder all the wires on the loom. The condition of the damaged wires might
indicate problems upstream from that connector as shorts could have very
well affected several circuits.

Have a look though the electrical manuals on JagRepair JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource
One of them names all the standard industry connectors used so you'd know what to search for.

You’ll want to put a short section and small diameter pvc pipe over those damaged wires to protect that harness from future damage.

A good idea! Apparently a local salvage yard just got a 3.2 V8 in so I will go have a look monday. It works well when I plug it in and make sure the wires don't touch so I think the circuits should be safe apart from the obvious shorting issues

Thanks a lot! I had to use a proxy to access JagRepair because it's blocked in the Netherlands for some reason, but I found it and it says "SM-1D / 16-WAY FORD 2.8 TIMER / BLACK". Unfortunately that gives no results to easily buy, but at least I think this means it uses 2.8mm blade terminals so that might help me to repair the plug if necessary.

Very good idea, I'll definitely add some extra protection

EDIT:
Oh, I think I found it! This looks to be the same plug. Part number MLC040-16S. Now to find someone who sells this in Europe.

EDIT 2:
For Americans you can also buy it at Mouser. For us Europeans, AliExpress sells the plug + terminals for €0,70 with €2,23 shipping HERE.

I'll check back in with repair findings after receiving the plug! Thank you all so much for the help!

Do you know what causes the damage to that seat connector/harness?

Not a 100% sure. Probably just rubs on seat internals over the years somewhere. Gonna insulate it all extra well when I redo the wiring.
