Seat Switch Module

Seat Switch
John, the switch (photo attached) works fine except the forward knob only allows forward movement. I originally thought it was the seat control module but I installed a new module today and it exhibits the same symptoms. I also applied power directly to the connector and the seat motor moves forward and backward. That tells me the forward knob is defective. I am going to remove the seat tomorrow and hope to be able to removed the switch assembly with breaking it.
I probably can find an used ivory replacement but I would rather have mine repaired if possible.

Kent,
Great description thank you. I should start by saying I've never heard of anyone who repairs this, but let's think it through.
The fact that external 12volts moves it either way tells us the wires are ok. Sounds highly unlikely that it's a corroded terminal issue.
That leaves us with the internals of the switch. I don't want to assume anything. When you successfully jumped it into action were you just dealing with 2 wires?
Applying 12volts to one or the other moved the seat in either direction?
Then we're pretty much dealing with the internal brush or toggle.
Gosh Kent if you could run 12volts to check the circuit, I bet you can pull the switch, look for the plastic tabs to disassemble it to get to the contacts and take a look.
One thing I learned with this kind of job - always open it up inside a container like a pail. You may find small parts or springs poised to jump on you. IME these kind of jobs appear way more intimidating than they really are. So far I haven't encountered a Jaguar switch that cant be disassembled.
Once you get it open figure out why it doesn't work in one direction. If the circuit trace is burned, just apply some rosin, then solder. I don't think a switch like this uses a carbon brush like your remote does though its possible (the tilt/telescope switch does). If so, just use an eraser to clean up the short from carbon deposits.
I cant picture how an internal plastic structure could have broken if the seat still moves 1 way.
Well I'm obviously thinking out loud, but if it helps you fix it yourself that'd be great.
Hope it helps.

Separately, folks have mentioned before on this forum that the buttons are backed with rubber pads and get dirty. A good cleaning of the circuit board and rubber pads may be all it takes.
Best of luck, keep us posted.

Got the same problem , so looking forward to your results.
Here's some of my research, if that helps

In case you break the tabs

Thanks for all the input. I ordered a used switch with a 30 day guarantee. Color is correct and once installed I am going to try to take apart the original switch and see if any thing can be done. I will post pictures unless I totally destroy it.
