Has anyone ever seen (or done) a conversion for the side marker badge (behind the front wheel wells) to be used as a turn signal - like on the newer Jettas, Hondas, etc.??? I was looking at something like these (but you would have to cut the body panel to recess the housings):
You can buy the proper items..... On XKs the wiring is half there connected to the back of the badge not sure if the same applies on XJs...... Easy to do...

If you want clear repeater lenses , with a little bit of fettling , you can use the boot ( trunk ) lights.
May be cheaper than importing the correct amber ones from the UK / Europe.
Thanks for the link Doug! So, it looks like the Euro models had OE side markers. I'm hoping that there might be a wiring clip hidden in the body panel. (?)
Hoping that there are existing wires in the body panel. If not, will splicing these onto the front signals affect amp load electronically? Sometimes it will cause the blinker to not function properly?????
Did you have any issues cutting through the fender? Like secondary panels or paint chipping? I plan on taping the area over and drilling opposing corners, then jig saw to the alternate corners. Obviously, I will start smaller and file out to a tight fit.
Thanks "Dad"

You don't have to cut anything, just pop out the Leaper and pop in the marker light, they both fit the same cut out in the fender, the right side is already wired, the wire is clipped to the back of the Leaper, you will have to wire the left side to the front turn signal.
I bought my side marker assemblies from a "breaker" in England, complete with bulbs and wiring connectors.
It's about a two hour job for a novice, you have to remove the left wheel and wheel arch liner to run the wiring on the left side.

The X300 sidemarkers are correct and fit the recess in the fender. As Vector says, the wiring including the connector is already there on the right side, making them plug and play. The left side you will have to run some wire to the front turn signal after removing the left wheel and inner fender liner.
Note that you will need the connector going to the back of the sidemarker on the left side, so try to get that included when you buy them. No holes to drill or wires to cut, just use IDCs to connect to the turn signal wires. No electrical issues, they work great, and I think provide an element of safety when lane changing.
That's awesome. I was worried about having to cut the fender. There's a lot of tight traffic in LA and it will help to have indicators amidship. Thanks again for the info! Cheers,
Darren
