X308 Transmission Problem
Was intermittent but now seems to be permanent
I've searched the net for answers to the problem and found the same problem mentioned a few times, but no definitive answers.
Goes into reverse as normal. But in Drive it seems to be in limp-home mode, ie, it doesn't want to move off and then suddenly thumps into gear. Seems to be driving in just 3rd gear only. Car has done just over 100K miles.
Is this an electrical problem or does it mean a recon box?

I'm hoping to get the codes read this weekend (I'll report back).
We've been snowed-in here so I've not been near the car for nearly two weeks.
I hope the weather's a little better so I can get a better look at the car on Saturday.

my symptoms were the exact same. reverse was good, but limp mode was all i could get to go forward in.
I went the other route and pulled mine and did a rebuild of all papers and rubbers, replaced the A drum, i believe is the name of the part that cracked and went bad, rebuilt and upgraded the valve body. in all the parts were about 650.00 and the fluid was about 280.00 since it is a mineral bssed Esso fluid. Pentosin is the same oil as the Esso and is availasble at Napa for about 14 a liter.
The transmission is actually very easy to rebuild as it is quite modular as the jag is. chances are the clutches will not need to be replaced at all and will show very minimal wear, at least mine did and it has 100K miles on her.

I've just hooked up an OBD II reader to the car and, guess what, no fault codes at all.
The info panel still says 'gearbox fault' with the little amber light above, but no fault codes on the tester.
Is the tester just reading the engine? Is there another way to read the transmission?

Still in limp home mode.
Goes into reverse just fine. In drive nothing, then it bangs into gear and seems to be in limp home mode.
if you could pull code sfrom the Trans module, I would venture to say youde find a p0741 torque convertor fault, be it circuit on the convertor itself. We dont rebuild, we replace, I want to have your car in n out of the shop the same day, not longer. And yes limp home is 4th gear, and limited throttle opening
