Default Xj8 bmw transmission swap

I have a 98 4.0 jaguar xj8 got it from an online post the guy said it was a transmission leak fluid wan coming out now the car will only go into reverse everyone in a while and if it does engage into drive it will still so no clue what it may be but a local pick an pull location has a 99 740il which contains the 5hp24 which is the same in the jaguar would it be possible to do a swap or will the tcm have to be re wired or reprogrammed or had anyone did anything similar or may know the issue with the transmission

I mean the car will stall once in drive if it engages other than that's it's as if it's in neutral

Nope it is not the same. The internals are but the rest isn't. The bolt pattern is different. The outlet for ATF is different.

It's probably the classic A drum failure. Just put that into the search and you will have many threads to read.
