I've read/watched several different how-to's for the transmission work. It seems straightforward enough however I'm absolutely certain I will find some obstacles as I always do. I'll have seized pan bolts and/or seized fill plug. Who knows, but it will be something that should take 2 min and I'll turn it into 2 hrs. That's how I roll
I think my biggest challenge from the start will be lifting it. A couple yrs ago I took the trans out of a taurus and it took me ~2 hrs to get it high enough with my assortment of cheap floor jacks, cinder blocks and pieces of 2x12 (it's a top notch operation). I don't have to go quite as high for this, but the combination of high enough and level will take some time.
I'm a little concerned with dealing with the exhaust as well, but I'm sure I'll find a way around that.
Four industrial-strength jack stands are mandatory for this job if you plan to do it on your back. Rick (joycesjag), Wayne (cjd777), and I will be doing a ZF 6HP26 drain-and-fill on my 2005 S-Type at Rick's house near Charlotte next Tuesday morning using Mercon SP. We know from previous experience that big, rock-solid jack stands are always Step Number One....

A couple cheap jacks, two cheap jack stands, two ramps, and some blocks -- Check!
30" of space I had to come up with to get the AX4S out of my Taurus, I think I can handle half that for the pan and fluid on this one.
Two additional things I would consider must for this project:
1. 8mm allen wrench cut to 0.75inch length. This will fit on the fill bolt and allow you to use regular wrench to turn it.
2. Garden pressure sprayer. 1.5 gallon, clean and with tip bent in J shape. This allows you to pump up the new fluid with the least of fuss. Bend the J shape with little bit of heat and allow it to take set.
The sprayer's a good idea - and I already have one, but clean up would be a real treat.
I'll keep that in mind if the hand pump I bought is a bigger hassle than expected.
I bought a new cheap set of allen wrenches that can be cut up if needed. Need new cut-off disks for my rotary tool
That mystery part might be exclusive to BMWs. I didn't get one of those with the kit I ordered from Klaus at the CTSC Company back in July 2013 to do the ZF 6HP26 pan replacement, sleeve replacement, and ATF refresh on my wife's 2006 XK8....
Been doing a little looking around.
The pan supplier is Bapmic which is apparently a german company.
Never heard of the brand, don't know anything about them.
I know this thread is old but love the car. I was looking at these wheels as well and while searching for them this thread popped up on google.
Been looking to get some new wheels from stock 19 to either 20 or 21 inch. I was thinking about 21 inch but the sidewalls or small that Im worried about the ride quality and bent wheel factor
Hi
The Mystery part goes under the mechatronics and it the seal for the flow and return to the torque converter, these are know to split
also if your thinking of changing this, there should be some other sleeves that you are missing
cheers
Joe.
