Default XJ8 Cut out and won't restart

Well the jag was running perfectly, stopped at a junction and when I went to pull away it would not rev up, got round the corner and it cut out, tried to restart it fired a coulpe of times then would not fire at all so had to get recovered home. I have checked the fuel pump fuses and swopped the relays but I can't hear the pump running so I am thinking that the fuel pump has died any other suggestions would be more than welcome. Finally is the pump located inside or near to the tank.

Cheers Graham

Hi welcome Graham - you should hear a high pitched whine in the boot when the ignition is switched on. A fast way to check fuel pump pressure is locate the schrader valve on the injection rail and press it while cranking, if it dribbles pump is over if it squirts all good...

Pump is in the tank, lazy people cut holes in their Jag to access the opening hatch at the top of the tank, a proper job is to pull it out enough to get to the top.
Trouble is you need to disconnect the two lines from the bottom of the tank, under the car and above the diff.

It was the fuel pump at fault, so fuel tank out and pump replaced so all good.
