XJ8 side window gaskets unavailable?
My 2005 XJ8 VDP side CHROME TRIM (NOT window) gaskets (BOTH SIDES) are shot, too much SoCal sun I suppose. When it rains the back seat foot-well becomes a puddle - or pond! I'm told replacements are unavailable.... need I fabricate something? Any solutions?

Sad to say, there are not many ways to fix this problem (maintaining appearance) unless the crack(s)
are on the inside of the window gaskets, and even then the longevity is questionable. Some have used
thin layer of black silicone along the crack to help seal the leaks. Your least expensive option would be
to find a good used part from a salvage yard. You might even inquire from some of the members in the
forum who have parts cars who might sell you the gaskets for less.

Thank you, indeed I have almost resignd myself to running a bead of something (silicon?) along/into the small gap on the top of the chome strip, I was told by a local mech that if I try to take it off I might not get it back unbent and in one piece.

I guess you would be able to tell by using a hose and spray water on it to determine the
area where it is leaking. A serious leak like the one described should be easy to spot.
