Default XJ8 timing kit 3.2 vs 4.0

Hello everybody! Hope that everything is great and that your Jags run like a dream!

I haven’t posted here for quite some time, but hoping to get back into it!

I own a beautiful 98 XJ8 3.2. It only has 85000 km (~53000 m), so it’s in a pretty good shape overall. However I do not know the tensioner situation. Maybe they have been replaced, but I don’t have any evidence to support that. I found this awesome kit (for an awesome price!) and was ready to buy it, when I realized that the 3.2 is not listed. I asked the seller and he assured me that from his knowledge this will only fit the 4.0. This kit is in the States and I know that they didn’t have the 3.2 over there, so maybe the seller simply isn’t familiar with the 3.2? I’m pretty sure everything will fit my car, but I want to be a 100% sure before I buy.
Please help me out! Are the 3.2 and 4.0 timing kits identical?
Thank you!

This is the kit I am referring to:

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page at this link it states that the 3.2 and 4.0 use the same service kit for timing chain replacement.

I don't know what to think of the ebay item you link to, should we be suspicious of its extremely low price, or is it a gift horse?

A bit concerned by that incredibly low price, as well. But if you go that route, be sure that the there are new bolts for the secondary (metal) tensioners: they are a different length.

Thank you very much for the information!

I am also suspicious of this kit, the price is just way too low. It says that the original price was around 600 $, but why would they make such a huge discount? Very strange. I think I will look for another one just to be safe. Maybe I will simply get the upper tensioners and bolts, don’t really have the time for the whole conversion anyway.

Thanks again!
All the best!

Christopher in the US has both upper tensioners and bolts: still, for $60 or so, maybe worth taking a chance.
