XJR ashtray light???

Default XJR ashtray light???

hi can anyone pls tell me how i can replace the light bulb in my front ashtray... 2000 model xjr... i just don want to damage anything

According to AllDataDiy you have to remove the centre console..... perhaps others will chime in with a simpler workaround....

hi mate, any ideas where i start or how i can remove the cntre console safely without any damage

1. Turn ignition switch to position II and apply footbrake.
2. Move gear selector to the the 'D' position, and release footbrake.
3. Turn ignition switch to position 'O'.
4. Remove battery cover and disconnect ground cable from battery terminal.
5. Where fitted, remove centre console rear extension. See: Centre Console Rear Extension
6. Remove fascia centre veneer panel.



7. Using a thin plastic lever, carefully release the rear air distribution control grill tangs at top and sides and remove grill complete with veneer panel and control.



8. Disconnect cigar lighter and ashtray illumination harness (white) multiplug at RH rear, of console.



9. Slacken and remove the two console rear securing screws.
10. Remove 'J' gate finisher and veneer panel. See: Centre Console 'J' Gate Trim\'J' Gate Finisher and See: Centre Console 'J' Gate Trim\'J' Gate Finisher Retaining Panel
11. Remove fascia centre veneer panel.



12. Slacken and remove the two centre console front securing screws.



13. Ensuring that harness is clear, pull console rearwards to withdraw front dowels from tunnel locations.
14. Remove console from vehicle.
15. Remove console ashtray. See: Ash Tray\Service and Repair
16. Remove centre console glovebox and lid. See: Glove Compartment\Service and Repair



17. Slide stud mounting plate off front of console.

Installation

1. Fit stud mounting plate to front of console.
2. Ensure that harness is correctly positioned.
3. Fit centre console ashtray.
4. Fit glovebox and lid to centre console.
5. Position console in vehicle, align correctly and push forward to engage front dowels.
6. Fit and tighten the console front securing screws.
7. Fit fascia centre veneer panel.
8. Fit and tighten the console rear securing screws.
9. Fit 'J' gate veneer panel and finisher.
10. Connect cigar lighter and ashtray illumination harness multiplug.
11. Where applicable, install console rear extension.
12. Fit and firmly seat air distribution control grill to rear of console.
13. Move 'J' gate selector to 'P'.
14. Connect ground cable to battery terminal and fit battery cover.

Hi
I know that the ashtray can have troublesome issues.
