Xjr water pump
Have replacement waterpump with raised face { original flat face} In positioning pump I cannot get the pump to fit in opening , it appears to be a press fit. Original 5 6mm bolts are not long enough to insert more than one making it impossible to use 2 or more bolts to pull the pump into position .
Any ideas/solutions , have thought of getting a couple of 6mm x 60mm lgth bolts to pull pump in.
Any one else had a similar problem

Graham...is this an aftermarket pump or an OEM?
They should just slide in, no fiddling or jamming...it's normally a 20 minut job.
When you say it has a raised face, what do you mean?
These should be just a simple direct replacememnt with no dramas.
I would be checking what pump you actually have.
It should come with a black rubber faced steel gasket.

Have checked Water pump with Auto Zone also [My replacement from JAG Parts} AZ's also same as my replacement , same part used for Lincoln Inside box was a notice advising of change .
Have attached pic .
As stated original is a flush mount , replacement raised casting that looks as if it should fit in the opening but does not slide in .
Jag Parts says their replacement only one sold and have sold 100's

Ide say the back black plastic portion of your old one containing the large o ring broke from the pump and is still in the opening. The opening it slides into is aluminum not plastic. Look again they do this occassionally

Many thanks Brutal .
The black 0-ring peice was in place .tried to pry it out with flat screwdriver and it moved /loosened.
Pulled it out with metal gasket using pair of Channel Locks.
Thanks to all in Forum who gave help

This situation probably happens more often than not

Hey Graham, Thanks for this post. My 01 XJR is leaking through the weep hole. To the group are there any other gotchas I need to look for? I figured I would change the belts as well. Anyone have antifreeze recommendations? Do I really need to remove that huge pipe plug to vent the system on refill?
Thanks!
Thanks!
coolant, from your model year it should be the Ford orange/red colour coolant, check as mixing green/red causes a gel sludge. If green fully flush the system and replace with orange.
To change the belts, it's far easier to remove the fan assembly, 2 bolts at the top and 3 cable ties to snip/replace, the bottom sits on it's own brackets that slot into the lower rad assembly.
To whoever said it takes 20 mins, not on a supercharged car even Brutal loaded on red bull couldn't do it without busting a knuckle lol
