Default 1988 inline 6 fan blade.

Lost a blade this evening, no damage. I do remember a thread suggesting to replace the stock fan, wish I would have. Guys are suggesting the black one, anybody care to point me in the right direction finding a replacement or have any thoughts to share.. Thank you, Rod.

Hi R-Rocks,

I really didn't think there were any '88s still out there with their original yellow fans. Back in the '90s there was a lot of discussion on the forums about failing fans causing hood and radiator damage, so all of us who owned early XJ40s replaced them.

Back then everyone recommended a certain black replacement fan, but I believe that all the new replacements available today should be fine and you shouldn't have to worry about the color.

According to the Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC), which you can download from this forum and install on your computer, the original part number for the fan blade was EAC3263, which was superseded by EAC9367.

I just checked the price at jaguarmerriamparts.com, the Jaguar dealer in Merriam, KS that sells Jaguar parts at discount prices, and their price is an astonishing $212.42 (and it's probably an aftermarket part since it is doubtful the OEM is still making them).

I would recommend comparison shopping all the good independent Jaguar parts specialists including forum sponsors Coventry West, SNG Barratt and Jagbits, who offer nice discounts to Jaguar Forums members. You can also check Welsh Enterprises, Rock Auto and Parts Geek.

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers,

Don

R&R the old fan, it has many cracks around the hub. Got lucky! 1.5 hours, $200.00. The car runs much smoother at speeds, noticeably different.
Rack & pinion, ball joints, rebuild differential, shocks, fuel pump, AC pump, tires, batterie, fan.

Thanks for the update, R-Rocks. Glad your fan didn't cause any expensive damage. And your story should serve as a warning to all early XJ40 owners to check their fans for cracks, especially if their fan is yellow (possibly white originally).

Cheers,

Don
