Default 1991 XJ6 4.0 Sovereign

Just replaced my XJS with this 1991 XJ 6. So far so good, came thru inspection with one minor issue. Have some questions as this is a new Model for me.
Side door moldings, I got too close with orbital and compound, took some paint? finish off. Are these moldings chrome or may have been painted over. I'm going to attach some photos, I hope you can see what I'm talking about. Its

toward the front of the rear door.
At a full stop for a few minutes I get a push back from the brake pedal, seems to happen on hot days, not sure that it maters.
Other than that I am really pleased with this vehicle.

They used to come as a set or individually at the parts counter but are likely NLA by now.

I used to have a complete set that I never installed on my 1991 XJ40 but I don't know if I still have it or sold it?

They are 'stuck on' with double sided 'sticky-tape' so a heat gun would probably be required to remove.

Hi Captain Bob 369,

Those sets are definitely No Longer Available from Jaguar. When the chrome-plated bead detail on my '93 began to deteriorate, I scuff-sanded and degreased the chrome, masked off the black rubber sections and bodywork, and spray-painted the bead detail with metallic silver paint designed for plastic (Rustoleum, I think). It turned out looking great and was still in great condition when I sold the car.

If you have to remove the trim, as Bob mentioned use a hair dryer or heat gun applied with great care to avoid damaging the paint, and use a piece of monofilament fishing line like a cheese cutter to pull through the double-sided tape.

Cheers,

Don
