Default 1993 Vanden Plas - help

Can anyone lead me in the right direction. I put the key in the door cylinder. Try to tun the key to unlock the door, but it does not turn for the lock to unlock. Can’t open the door. Any clue on what I can do ?

Joe,

I've moved this version of your question from US Northeast Region forum to XJ40 forum. I'd also replied to the other one in General Tech Help.

Please keep all discussion of the topic in this thread.

Try the passenger side? Many of these cars have had replacement door handles (mine for instance) and not all owners swap out the lock cylinder resulting in the original key only fitting the ignition. If both front handles have been replaced that way, then the original key won't open either.

It is possible to open the car door by inserting a bent coat hanger wire between the door seal and the body at the top (rear door) and attempting to hook the button and raise it. I've successfully opened the car this way when I accidentally locked the car with the key in the ignition when replacing rear door handle.
You may have to slightly pry the window frame outward at the top rear corner in order to get the coat-hanger wire inside, but it can be done, just takes a bit of patience, kinda like fishing.
