1994 XJ12 Coding a remote fob with no security switch
Hi all
The following link has a lot of useful info but does not describe my situation.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ers-faq-33575/
My 1994 XJ12 has Jaguar remote central locking but no switch in the centre console and does not have the security system as described in the owners handbook
Is there any way to code a new remote or should I just grit my teeth and head down to my mechanic?
Cheers
Steve

Well its take a while but I have finally found the time to have a look in the boot to see what security module is fitted to Lady Penelope. Unfortunately she has just the 318mHz remote central locking module part no DPP1057/01, which is a bit of a bugger. My mechanics Autologic system also can't handle programming the remote. Apparently the latest software update has a problem...
I have been able to source a centre console switch from a 1993 sovereign wreck in town. I thought I was on a winner but it transpired it was an English import with a 418 Mhz system otherwise I could have tried an ECU swap.
So is it worth trying to hook up the console switch and try standard switch on/off method with the above module and if so is there any danger of bricking the ECU?
Cheers

Bump.
Looks like the poor XJ40 sub forum is probably not the best place to post this ( not enough traffic ), but I have found a solution in the XJS forums which worked. All in all a nice learning experience with the story as follows.
In addition to my mechanic, the other independent jag specialist in town reckoned he couldn't sync the fob to the car either. I also rang the local Jag dealer and they really didn't want to tackle it. So with nothing to loose (except possible a bricked remote locking ECU ) I decided to do some serious investigation.
A bit of googling revealed that though I had no security switch, it was likely that the wiring for the switch would exist under the console. Opening up the search parameters to Jaguars generally rather than XJ40's found a couple of threads in the XJS sub forum discussing MY94-96 XJS fob coding in the US. Apparently they didn't have the valet switch, but still had the full security system and with a switch plugged in, used the same coding method as the 93-94 XJ40's. First link below is a nice how to video. Second is a good description, however I do think that in post #6 he has "on" and "off" the wrong way round. My testing of the Jag switch revealed that it is grounded when off.

The only remaining question now was would it all work, given my car only had remote central locking. I reckoned it was worth a go as the security and remote locking ECU's have the same basic part number with different suffix's after the slash and therefore likely to be electronically similar.
So out with the centre console and yes the wiring loom plug was there to plug the switch into. I also removed the LH air filter and plugged in the Klaxon as the car didn't come with one. Followed the 93-94 instructions posted elsewhere and to my complete amazement, on the first go, the alert chirps sounded. Pressed the old remote and horn beeped, pressed it another 2 times and then the new remote another 2 (total 5) and switched off. Removed the switch and both remotes worked!!! You could probably do it without the klaxon but there would be no sounds to guide you.
Hopefully this may be of use to other XJ40 owners.

You might try these guys.
Keylessride.com

I purchase a couple of remotes from them a few years ago and they sent instructions (94 XJ6) but for $10 with access to their technical staff might be worth a go. Even if you have to buy a remote at $60 its less than an hour at the dealer.
