1994 XJ6 Van den Plas - just dies / won't start / no dash warning lights
I just got a 1994 XJ6 Van den Plas. Drove it for two days - started and ran beautifully. Wife moved it this morning, went out to start this afternoon and it wouldn't start - just clicked. Jumped the battery and it started up and ran (took it to the local Jag mechanic to diagnose a rear driver side door latch issue). Turned it off and it wouldn't start again. No warning lights, no nothing. He jumped it for me and the "limp home" light came on, but no other warning lights. Got home and she won't even turn over. Installed a new battery - no different. Tried to jump again - no different. The warning lights don't come on in pos 2, no headlights in pos 2 (but dash lights, not warning lights) work. Other interior lights work. Remote lock/unlock just chirps after I try to start it once, but if I manually open and lock (all doors lock), the remote works again. Don't know how/if all this is related. I've read threads about fuses, but is it possible that the car would start when jumped the first and second time, but not now? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
pablackcat, sounds like to me you have a bad battery terminal or a bad battery wire. This is especially possible if you are from PA (gotta love salt on the roads). I would guess that if you follow what most people are taught to do, you put the red wire from the jumper cables on the battery post and the black wire on some metal part of the motor. If this allows the engine to crank over, then this is telling me that you have either a bad connection at the battery on the negative post or your negative lead running between the battery and the motor is bad. Either way, replacing this wire will solve your problem. The other check that you can do is run a multimeter between the positive battery post (make sure to get on the battery post itself, not the clamp that holds the positive wire to the battery) and any fuse in the fuse box that has power all the time. It should read 0.010 VDC (or less, ideally 0.000 VDC). Now, rotate the key to the RUN position (don't take it to the START position). Does the multimeter jump up to a value above 0.500 VDC? If yes, then your positive battery cable is bad. if no, then more troubleshooting is required. Let me know the results of these checks and I will see what I can find in the way of a wiring diagram for your vehicle.
Pull all the fuses out of the left footwell fuse box (fusebox #2), clean the terminals with contact cleaner, and plug in new fuses as per the amperage chart on the inside of the fusebox cover. 93-94 have a water ingress problem that frequently cause lots of headaches.
Charging battery and heading out to buy fuses and contact cleaner. Heavy rains here tonight so I may not get to this until tomorrow. I'll let you know. Thanks for the quick responses!
(By the way, should I wait until everything dries out before changing the fuses?)

Battery wires seemed to check out okay per your directions. Tried the next post, rempved fuses, cleaned fusebox with contact cleaner, and replaced the fuses) jumped the car again and got it started. I'm going to trickle charge the battery and put it back in to see if it stays charged. Otherwise I may have something draining the battery. Thanks for your help!

Did this, then jumped the car - it started with no "limp home" light. I'm going to trickle charge the battery (it was showing 12.4v) but hink I may have some battery drain somewhere. The previous owner disconnected the CD player saying it drained the battery. It was not connected when all this happened. Anyway, thanks for the help!!! Kudos.

Ok so I switched the wires opposite of what they were and now they dont light up at all.. My fuse is not blown, When I switch them back the way I had them they light up like running lights but go off when i signal the certain side.
Any one know how I should wire these in?
