90/94 xj6 door swaps
I'm attempting to switch a door from a 90 xj6 to a 94 xj6. The back passenger has already been swapped and works as it should. I'm struggling with the driver front door. I have all matching wires connecting, I have 17 wires coming from the car, not including the 3 speaker wires. I have 10 wires from the door. I have printed out the schematics for it and color coded it, but I'm still having trouble matching them up.
Has anyone done this before and maybe have pictures to show the rest of the wires?

Is it possible to retrieve the door panel interior components and door card from the old 94 door and transfer them to the replacement 1990 door?
If you do that, everything should match up,.

Unfortunately it's not. The wiring for the 94 has two big connectors that go straight into the door panel. And the wiring for the 90 doesn't have that. The wiring is different on the inside for both doors. The only connectors that look the same are for the side mirrors, but even then one connectors has four wires going in whereas the other one has two. I'll take some pictures of what I got and figure out how to post them
I guess I was suggesting using all the 94 interior stuff and dumping the 90 harness and components.
94 to 94 should be no issue if you swap the components over too, no?

I don't have access to another 94.
see I thought about just swapping the guts, but in order to do that, I'll have to cut the window track, because there's no way to get the piece that holds the door shut out.
The panels for the doors don't even mount the same ways.
I'm just trying to figure out which wires I can match up to each other. But so far I'm not having too much luck. And there's no guarantee that everything will still work.

Hi Christina,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
Off the top of my head, the '94 may have heated mirrors while the '90 may not.
The '94 may have controls in the driver's door switch for headrest adjustment while the '90 may not.
The '94 may have switches for seat memory that the '90 does not.
If you use Ctrl+F or Cmd+F in Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the pdf search function with the two Electrical Guides open, you can search the keyword "Door" to locate all the connections in the front doors for each year, which should help you figure out what wires the '94 has that the '90 did not.
In the meantime, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.
Cheers,
Don
