Default 93 XJ6VP Brake shift interlock

Since picking up the Green Machine, the brake shift interlock has been dodgy. This morning I realized the brake lights weren't coming on every time the brakes were applied. I removed the brake light switch and was able to get some contact cleaner in the "sealed" micro-switch by spraying in where the wires go in. A couple of applications and some air dry time and we now have 100% lights and interlock operation. YEAH!!!!!!

Thank you! I may try this before going to replace the switch on my '94 which has the same - annoying - problem.

You're welcome. I'd suggest hiring a midget gymnast to remove the switch. Tight quarters under the dash. I removed the knee bolster and support to gain access and still was a bit frustrating. 7mm bolt and 8mm self locking nut on bottom requires two hands. Upper bolt didn't need to be touched. Good luck!

Well, about 3 days later, back to intermittent brake lights. Ordered a switch from an unnamed source and waited close to two weeks for delivery. No part. Called to check status and told "we don't have one to ship you, we've been looking but nothing available." Even better, will take 3 to 7 days to credit my card with a refund. Can I use the word "douche bag" on this forum? What a rotten way to do business. Guess who isn't getting another order from me!

Default brake switch

Just a question,is it easier to remove the brake pedal first to gain access to the brake switch.Looks like one bolt and a clevis pin to remove it.
