94 Jag Blowing Smoke

94 Jag Blowing Smoke
First off let me say my car runs great. It's never failed to get me where I'm going. I run it 70 mph on freeway each day, and it purrs gracefully down the road like a Jaguar should.
That being said, when I start my car up it shoots some smoke from the exhaust, leaves a decent little cloud. Now I hear that nearly every xj40 does this to a point. After about 5 seconds its done. Leaky gaskets maybe?
What i'm asking is...how concerned should I be? Fix it now, or later? And do you guys experience this as well? Is it common?

My '93 was leaving a plum of smoke when the engine was hot It was like blueish color not white or black . Bear in mind, I was using Castrol Edge 10W60 upon recommendation of Jag Specialist .
Now , since my last oil change (partly Castrol 10W60 and Mobil 10W60) they added Motor Silk Additive and I didn't see a cloud of smoke .
I remember those clouds from valve sealings or so .Nothing to be concerned about unless you loose excessive oil

Only the 1993/94 XJ40 4.0 were bad about 'smoke at startup, 88 to 92 were less 'smokey'.
There are two ways to replace the valve stem seals, remove the head and hold the valves on the bench or use an air hose to pressurize the cylinder and hold the valves closed (some have used ROPE to fill the cylinder and rotate crank to crush rope to valves) I have done it both ways (not the rope) at the dealer back in the 1990s when customers complained of smoke at startup. I have a modified VW watercooled engine valve spring compressor that is attached in various places to access different valves. The problem is the head bolts also hold the cam caps so they must be removed one-at-a-time and a spacer be installed and the head bold reinstalled to hold the head in place.
You should probably just ignore the smoke unless you have alot of time and/or money for this fault or if it is burning alot of oil.

^ yeah it is a blueish color smoke. It doesnt leak one drop of anything, never has. My mechanic said just to ignore it, most 94s do that and its not really a big deal. I'll try the new oil you suggested, see if it helps. But if not, I think i'm just gonna ignore it..I can put up with some smoke as long as she keeps runnng good

I agree with motorman, but in your case and many like it. I useally recommend mechanic in a can. I have had excellant results with "engine restore" avail at any auto parts store and walmarts in the automotive section. It does wonders for ring blow by, and smoking too. Just follow directions on bottle. Youll need at least the v8 sized bottle. If it doesnt work for you, youre out $10

alright, i'll probably pick some up tomorrow then. my next oil change is in like 650 some miles so i'll be sure to add when i change it. i'll be sure to post results.
in other funny news, some ricer integra challenges me to a race, I didnt want anything to do with him, (not worth my time). I hold up the three fingers, honk three times, he floors it and i just let off the gas. He does the typical ricer fly by if you know what i'm talking about. Goes out of my sight. Two minutes later I see state highway patrol pulling this clown over. made my week.
