ABS Failure/Low Pressue Light on XJ6
We are looking at buying a 1988 Jaguar XJ6. The asking price is $2,500 (US dollars)The body is straight and the suspension is solid (as demonstreated by the owner taking a curve at 50mph[8D]). The only thing that concerned me was that when I first started the car and until I got up to over 25 MPH the ABS Failure and Low Pressure Light flashed. The owner said that it does that but there'e nothing wrong and it would stop as soon as we went faster (which it did).
Is this something that should make us walk away from the deal, or is this no big deal and we should invest in this fine looking car?

If you seek out and find a local mechanic who can answer your questions, you will be assured that these two separate issues are not terribly serious...and you'll know who to consult when the next problem with this model arises. There are many, but the drivetrain is basically very reliable.

Posting has been difficult here, so mine are currently short and choppy. That would have to be an exceptionlly nice, low mileage '88 for it to demand that price. They are still around, but rare. The only other advantage in buying an '88, more relevant today then ever: the early cars were fitted with a lower compression engine that runs just fine on regular 87 octane gas. That was the last Jaguar built to be able to make this claim.

I'll try this again (not sure if what I just tried to post worked)
Thank you for the information. I just didn't want to buy a car that I was going to have to put thousands of dollars into it the vey next day just to have it be safe.
The car has about 130,000 miles on it. Would $2000 still be much for the car?
I really appreciate you taking your time to answer. It has been a long time since we've bought a used car. (That's why we can'tnow).

Thanks so much for your advice. I know that with any car that old we are bound to have issues at some point, but when it comes to brakes, well......
I wish we were in Ohio, as it sounds as if you would be a reputable mechanic to bring the car to if we decide to purchase it. I don't suppose you know any good Jag mechanics in Oregon do you?
