Hi everyone, I' new to this so apologise in advance! I have an 1987 XJ40 2.9 and have had a problem with the climate control system. It did work when i got it 3 year ago but had intermittant problems, in that sometimes it took quite a while for it to come on! Now it doesnt work at all! no matter where you put the dials all you get is hot air through the vents, the air con compressor can be made to work if yo power it via the relay plug but I have no interior fans and as i said only hot air. I cant hear any motors or flaps operating and have no lights on the controls, I have checked ALL the fuses and the compressor relay at the front right of the vehicle. I had an aircon guy re-charge the gas as it had a leak but I cant get it to run to find out where!!
Any ideas?

I'm at my witts end in this heat!!!

Hi Tod if I could email you some of this cold in exchange for some of your heat, believe me I would.

Have you checked the main connector to the aircon ECU behind the panel near your left foot. (Australia RHD correct). It may have come loose or even have dropped off.

Also there are relays inside the blower units themselves, but you need to remove them to get to these.

That's about it for me and Aircon, never use it, can't afford the petrol.

There was a TSB issued in the early 90s to replace the micro-switch in the climate control panel (1988 to 1992). The last TSB I have is 82-38 ammended 7/95 and it has instructions for repair. Jaguar offered a switch repair kit, (JLM11240) but a micro-switch and 2 (2-56 screws) can be sourced locally at electronic parts supplier.
