Question Changing Belts

Hi all,
I just ordered 3 new belts for the car, air pump, alternator and compressor ...any "gotchas" I should be aware of before I start the job and will I need any special tools to install the new ones?

It's been awhile since I did it but I think it will all be obvious to you, Larry. Unfortunately there are no modern automatic tensioners you just twist to loosen the belt. It's all old-school with nuts on threaded rods to adjust tension and jam nuts to lock things in place once adjusted.

I seem to recall that it helps to loosen the main alternator mounting bolt so it will pivot more easily. Same with the compressor. Can't remember the air pump at all but our car does have one. If you have time for photos I'm sure others would be appreciative!

Cheers,

Don

Ok Don, will do! - belts are on the way here so if the weather isn't too wet (I'm not undercover any more) I might get it done in the next week or so ..Thanks again

You are NOT going to like replacing the air pump belt.

Never mind.... I see you have 1994 and should have electric fans. The earlier cars had a water pump mounted fan that had to be removed because the belt is too small to fit over the fan.

Oh yeah, I've got the electric fan setup -- Thanks for the clarification, I was wondering why it would be a problem but big fan small belt ...yup.. that makes sense!!
