check engine light on 1
ok first of all i get a check engine light no vcm codes. the light came on after the car shut down in extreme heat. it was not over heating but when outside temps rise above 105F and have been driving for over 20 minutes. it looses power and shuts off. i rase the hood let the engine heat leave and it starts up and i continue on. this day it happend 6 times. i have no idear what is going on.
the engine starts to starve for someting. and shuts off. i chnaged the plugs and though that fixed the problem but not!
now i have check engiln light on and do not wnat to reset it to see if there is another way to read any codes and find out what is happening.
it never happens in winter, spring and fall!
any help

fuel or fire
Hi cajunchef and welcome to the Forum.
What year car are we talking about? I'm trying to determine if the fuel pump is external or in the tank. You may have a fuel vaporization problem.
Let's start with the basics.
When it conks out, is it a fuel or fire problem? IOW, will the car try to start with a little ether squirted into the air box (filter removed) or do you NOT have spark at the plugs?
I know, it's hot out there. I ride a bike and feel the heat from the asphalt all the time in the summer.
o
BTW Fuel filters are supposed to be changed every 15 000 miles or 12 months. Do you?

1990 jag xj6 54k orignal miles. new fule filter less than 8 months ago. not 15k on the filter no on trying to put ether in airbox. it does not happen all the time but now after reading another post. i think you are right on pump. it is external on my model. so is the filter.
will go from there.
and my old id for some reason does not work so i had to redo under this one
thanks for input!! helps much!!
