Default Door lock gremlins...

This morning I unlocked my XJ, only to have it immediately relock the door, etc. Each time I unlocked he car it relocked. Manualy pulling the drivers side lock knob met with the same results even with the key in the ignition, and running? When I used the passenger lock to unlock the car it unlocked normaly? When I drove the car to work, I parked it and checked the lock operation and everything works fine?? My concern is there may be a time when the car locks when running and I won't be able to get in. Has anyone run across this and what is the sugested fix? Ken? you out there?

I would suspect the driver's side actuator is up to no good. It's a master for the rest of the system, so if it malfunctions and locks it tells all the other doors to lock as well. It's where I would start.

Speaking of door locks, I installed power locks on my car. For the past month or so, my rear passeger lock works when it wants to. It's become hard to pull manually. Any tips on how to loosen it?

Make sure the linkage is not binding and lubricate the latch and linkage. You may also want to make sure the door alignment is true. As the seals age they compress and this can throw off the alignment when closed.

No problems with this since. My concern is of course that the darn cat will simply lock the doors unexpectedly when she's running. That might be a problem if one was not near a spare key. Is this something I can expect to continue? Or wold you just leave it for the time being? And most importantly, how much would one of these actuator puppies run me?? I am sitting down.

I would check it out first. The 94 models are unique. I'd have to see if I have any used ones.

I have one. And for the next whileI'll keep it handy. The car is going into winter storage mid october anyhow, so I'll probably not worry too much until we take it out next spring. Just put it down to one of those uniquely "Jag" things. Maybe I'll just get another actuator and change it out this winter if I get really bored.

The cool thing? My wife was driving it at the time and;
A) Actually noticed the warning lamp was on, and ...
B) Was concerned enough to call me.

Thanks Ken... It hasn't happenedsince my post, so I'm writing it off to Gremlins or those pesky "Jag Gnomes" but I will keep you in mind if it tries it again. BTW if you run across as 1993ish manual I'm still looking for one, or at least one with the newer heating controls covered. I'll get a want list together and see if we can do some business. I'll need to order enough to warrant the shipping costs in any case. Ouchy..

Ran across a 1988 sovereign for $1300.00 CDN, probably could get it for $1000.00 or less... very tempting for a parts donor, but no place to keep it, and there's likely nothing reliable on an 88 anyhow...lol
