Default Door problem

I have a 1993 xj6 which has a problem with one of the rear doors. both the inside handle and the outside handle are good, but neuther will open the door.I believe it has something to do with the child safety switch. What i want to find out is how to get the door open (i have the panels off it now).I have tried to pry the lever assys but nothing is working,Any help with this problem will be appreciated.
Thanks

I have the same issue on my 94. When I go the car the Child Safety switch was engaged. It took quite a bit of effort to disengage it and you could tell it had been on for a long time. However even after I disengaged the physical switch it still wouldn't work. My daughter sits on that side so I have to roll down the window and pull the knob up manually for the door handles to work.

The child safety lever only disables the inside door handle. If it is engaged you wont be able to open the door from the inside, but you should still be able to use the outside door handle as long as the door is unlocked. It sounds like you may have 2 related problems. If you have the door panels off (congratulations! that cant have been easy!) then I would try reaching in and pulling up on the latch rod itself. Also try soaking with some penetrating fluid. My recent favorite is PBlaster. but I don't know if its available near you. I suspect that maybe the rod to the outer handle is not connected possibly due to a broken connector. Good luck!

I'm not an expert on the lock mechanisms - the most I've ever had to do was repair or replace broken exterior handles. But the exploded parts diagrams may be helpful. Below are the two available diagrams and the links at jaguarclassicparts.com where they can be found:

Door Handle-Outer - Parts For XJ6 & XJ12 from (V)667829 to (V)708757 - Canada/USA | Jaguar Heritage Parts UK

Door Latch - Parts For XJ6 & XJ12 from (V)667829 to (V)708757 - Canada/USA | Jaguar Heritage Parts UK

Hopefully some of our other members will have some more specific suggestions!

Cheers,

Don
