Engine part trivia - Or, how important is this leftover part?
Greetings! So I've been pretty quiet on here this season, mostly due the fact that I haven't been driving the car. She popped the head gasket on the first drive out of storage this past spring, A bit of research lead me to discover that this is something of a "100k celebration" for these cars, (102k in my case!) and me being the stubborn SOB that I am, decided to order some parts attempt to handle it myself.
Which brings us to today. I tightened the "last" bolt two days ago, and spent last night looking things over and finding homes for all of the other "leftover" bolts. Now I'm down to only this part, and I can't figure out where it came from, or how important it may be. Do any of you seasoned Jag Veterans recognize this?
Edit: I should have added some specifics: 1993, US model. 4.0L
I'm definitely ready to top off the fluids and give 'er a crank. Hopefully I didn't screw up the timing..
Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this!
Mike

Awesome. Thank you! I "felt" as if it had come from that area somewhere, but that definitely jogs my memory. I kept looking back at the bracket for the distributor, and saying "nope. not there."
Now to see if I have the old or new tensioner. Hopefully driving that upper bolt home without the plate in place didn't blow out the back or something. I've done everything by hand, so I'd hope I would have felt unusual resistance..
If you find yourself in Minnesota, I owe you a beer.
Follow-up: Not only was that exactly it, but I'd managed to reinstall that tensioner 180 degrees from your diagram, which presumably could have blocked some oil passages.
Your assistance was greatly appreciated there.
Even better news, the car starts! and runs!
Not so great news: Most of the new coolant I added is now on the floor of the garage. Better than in the first two cylinders like it did before, but still far from ideal. It was dark, so I called it a night. We'll see if I can find some time this weekend to take another look.
I might have this fixed just in time to put it into storage for the winter..
