Default Engine pull without trans?

Does anyone know if it's possible to pull an '89 3.6L engine out of an XJ6 without the transmission attached? Getting ready to do this, just wondering how far I have to go with the removal here...

Thanks,
Pete

It's possible, but believe me... Its a lot easier to pull them both out as one unit.

There is not very much wriggle room against the firewall to get your fingers in to undo the bell housing bolts. And then you still need to pull the transmission rearward to separate it from the flywheel.

The engine and transmission are mounted as one. Two front engine mounts and one transmission mount in a suspended 'triangle' configuration.

+ heaps.

The risk of the trans falling off whatever is used to support it is too high, and lining it all up on refit is just plain toooooo hard.

Fair Dinkum, small indeed.

Last trip to Las Vegas we ran into 2 Adelaide couples.

We are still a weird mob though, HAHA.
