Default Exploded diagrams.

Hi,

I have a 1989 Sovereign which I am restoring.

Does anyone know where I can get a manual which has exploded drawings showing how to remove and replace various peices of equipment.

Regards,

John.

Hi John, check out the FAQ at the top, you can download the XJ40 book, which is a decent read, also you will find a link to a place for downloading the electrical diags for your car, and if you go over to the General Tech Section you will find a link to Christo's JTIS download site.

What bits were you specifically looking to remove and replace because you will find that a lot of the guys have posted repairs etc with pics to go with them?

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the reply, I will check out your hints in a moment.

I need to remove the sunroof.

I have removed the headliner and cleaned it up, now need to remove the sunroof so I can get them recovered.

Regards,

John.

Hi Guys,

Removed the sunroof today.

Just a little diferently than the JDC instructions.

First I opened the sunroof as per instructions and then removed the 4 screws on the front flange of the outside part of the sunroof.

Then the instructions said " pull forwards and lift out "

NO GO. Something holding it in still.

Finally got the wife to close the sunroof as I held onto the outer part and lo and behold, it lifted out ok.

Next step is to remove a metal hold down peice from the front of the lower section of the sunroof and then just lift out the lower section.

DO NOT remove any of the arms as advised in the instructions.

I have now taken the headliner and sunroof to my local motor trimmer who has quoted Aus$140 to re cover them.

It has been a good three or four days of a steep learing curve but I am enjoying it so far.

Thanks for the help and will keep in touch, will try and put some photos up too.

Regards,

John.

Hi Guys,

Progress pics on fixing up the headliner.

Sorry they are just following removal, as most of the work was done before I joined this forum.

All I have to do now is wait for the motor trimmer to recover the headliner and sunroof panel and put it all back together.

Will post pics of final result when complete.

Regards,

John.

Look forward to the update.

I'm at the same spot as you right now. My freshly glued in headliner is drying in the garage. I'm going to try and pull the sunroof panel tomorrow.

John,
Thanks for the pics and write up! I just replaced my headliner w/sunroof and your description helped a lot with dealing with removing the sunroof and inner panel.
My inner panel is back in, but still haven't replaced outer.

Got my sunroof panel out, pretty easy would have been easier with a helper though. Powering the roof forward and lifting takes some coordination lol.

Letting the glue set for a few hours than I'll be buttoning this project up. Looks like total time working will be about 5 hours total.

Thanks I'll post up a few pics of the recovered headliner in a bit. I'll also try to get a few after I re-install it. 5 Hours time and $58.31 looks to be the total investment. I'm not counting curing time for the adhesive obviously.

Correction on the pics part, a rain storm started rolling in so I had to work fast. It's all done though and looks pretty darn good.

Hi Guys,

Sorry no pics from Australia yet as the headcloth is still at the motor trimmers, waiting for the material.

I will take pics as it goes back in and post as soon as possible.

Regards,

John.
