Default FDS2000 diagnostic cable paired with MP4

Hi,
I have fds2000 that I want to use on my xj40. I have Ford’s diagnostic cable that I want to connect with PM4. Does anyone know what colors of Ford’s wires should be paired with
diagnostic output PM4’s wires?

The colors of Ford’s wires are green, white, brown and earth. Jaguars PM4 has brown, black, orange and yellow.

Hello Mikael,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

I do not know if it is possible for a Ford FDS2000 to communicate with an XJ40. Ford did not take ownership of Jaguar until 1990, so as far as I know, Ford had nothing to do with designing Jaguar's OBDI diagnostic system. The XJ40 Engine Control Modules (ECM)/Engine Management System (EMS) were made by Lucas, possibly using technology licensed from Bosch.

You can download the wiring schematics for your car at this link, which may help you understand the wires to the Positive Mate 4 connector:

Cheers,

Thanks Don for your help.
I am an old member but have not been logged in for a long time. FDS2000 and PDU are the same. What is different is the software itself and some contacts. There is a lot written on the forums about FDS2000 and PDU.

The former diagnostic JDS was manufactured by Genrad. FDS2000 and PDU are also manufactured by Genrad. I think you can also use the FDS2000 / PDU on the 1988 model. But from 1990 it works.

I have had my XJ40 for 13 years so I'm pretty knowledgeable about my car. If there is someone who converted the diagnostic switch to a PM4 I would be happy if anyone can tell me which colors belong together.
