Exclamation Fuel Fail 24 confusion!

Hello all,

I have a 1990 Jag XJ-6 (Base model). It is throwing a "Fuel Fail 24" Code. I found a previous thread on here with a download to a diag tree. I followed the tree that was posted, and all signs point to the amplifier being bad. My only reservation about replacing it right now is the fact that I am still geting spark out of the coil and to the plugs. My question is if the amplifier is supposed to control spark delivery (if i understand the system right), then would it be possible to still get spark out of a bad amplifier? I don't want to throw parts at my car and until now I have never had to work on it.
Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks, Cam.

Be sure to go introduce yourself in the new member section, after 10 posts you can use the search function within this XJ40 section, we have all dealt with one or another code at one time. In the mean time, disconnect the negative from your battery, go step on the brake for 20 seconds then reconnect negative lead and start the car. If the code comes back we can go from there.

Default Update 07/23

I have searched through to forums and was unable to find an answer to my question. I cut the power, held the brake, and reconnected. No code anymore, but the identical issues are there. when I crank the key, if I leave my display on the diag, it flashes fail, but doesn't stick a code. My previous question is my next step.
Someone please answer one of these 2 questions for me.
- Does anyone know if an ignition amplifier can be bad and still throw a spark?
- Is there some sort of test out there (resistance or otherwise) to check if my amplifier is bad?
I have tested all the wires going from the ECM to the amplifier, and they all check out. so thats out. I would like to check the amplifier before I shell out the small fortune (small fortune for me right now at least) to buy a new amplifier.

Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks again.
