Default Fuel pump electrical connection

I've referred to your forum many times and have just joined today. My car is a 1992 XJ40, bought from a friend's garage where it had sat for a while. He thought it needed a lot of work but almost everything was down to just two connectors and relays; that was 2+ years ago and I've put 23,000 miles on it since!

My question regards soldering the fuel pump wires and eliminating the connector as was written in another thread. The bit that wasn't clear to me - does the pump have to be removed from the tank or is it possible to do the electrical work right under the back deck? Sorry that this is so elementary but I didn't see it in the replies in the earlier thread, which of course now I can't find again. And is it necessary / advisable to replace the gasket at the pump mounting, are these available separately?

I've picked up many tips from your forum and appreciate that so many other people are so enthusiastic about these cars. Thank you in advance.

I think this will be the thread that you refered to. Any advice from Brutal, JagTechOhio and PoBoy is always pretty good. IMHO.

and also,

I had to replace a pump and the only way (without forcing something) was to remove the tank and then remove the pump.

The wire being refered to is inside the tank, mine had completely burnt away at the connections.

Don't know about the soldering aspect because I replaced the complete unit from a spares car.

Maybe someone such as BRUTAL will spot this and chime in.

Just be careful or your next post might be to a "higher authority"

Thanks for the links, Translator, and to you tech guys, JagtechOhio et al., for your solutions to this problem. The connection has been working itself loose every two or 3 weeks and I'll be working on it as soon as possible.

When you go about sorting it out, please post up some pics of your fix, which will undoubtably benefit other members.

Cheers,

Good idea, Translator. I'll try to remember to take some as we go along. Others' photos of their work has helped me, too.
