I own a 1991 XJ6 i am new to Jaguars so please be patient nether blower motors go on i have checked the three fuse boxes in the cabin when you turn the control to defrost the blower motor on the passenger side clicks every two seconds if you place your hand on the motor you can feel it tap any help would be appreciated,I also don't have any dash lights the dimmer doesn't work checked all fuse boxes ? Step by step instructions would be great

My problem was the blower motor was so corroded it was seized. Instead of spending a bunch of money on a new motor I removed the brushes and soaked it with wd40 and was able to free it up. then I kept using wd40 and spining it by hand until it turned smoothly without any crunching.

don't know about the gauge lights haven't made it that far yet.

 

I think you are barking up the right tree with the research and the links that cargasm provided in his post. These blowers are a weak point in these cars, but there are some guys out there who have boiled troubleshooting down to a step by step process. I'm just not one of them as I do not have any personal experience with these issues. Sorry can't be of more help. This may be stupid, but... Could the dash light fault be a bulb problem?

When you take out your blower motor on the right side can you tell me where this connector connects to? I cant seem to find it and now the car wont start
the wire colors in it are
white w/ black stripe
black w/ pink
blue w/ red
black

Wow all the wiring under the passenger side has been hacked someone put alot of inline fuses im going have to do alot of tracing one by one LOL should be okay i will let you know the outcome

the problem is in the microswitch attached to the fan speed selector, u can take the ac control unit appart and spray some contact cleaner on the switch and it might work, replacing it its pretty simple, finding a replacement might not be that easy.

I don't have a lot of time, but will give some suggestions to your troubleshooting of the fans. pack21269 threw in the idea of the micro switch, it might be a contributor, but not the main problem based on your description.

The micro switch influences the medium and low speeds of the fans, but even if it is defective, you should still have high and defrost. The fans running full speed is proper, the micro switch steps down the speeds via the components in the fan assembly(s).

Based on your description, pull the fans, inspect for heavy corrosion as suggested, clean all of the components, then apply direct power to the fan motor. If they function properly, you need to go back to the supply harness connector and test for voltage supply.

IF you discover problems with the supply connector, trace back and see if the hack job has interfered with supply. If that's okay, trace back to the supply fuse box and meter for consistent juice to it. I suspect you will find your problem between the supply connector and the fuse box.

Another common issue with these vehicles is the solder points on the fuse boxes themselves. Many have pulled the boxes on both sides of the vehicle and inspected/re-flowed the solder on the boxes. It probably would be prudent to do so in your case considering the prior owner was Dr. Frankenstein. (I hope your not related to them...opss)

If you can re-establish full power to the fan assemblies, that will be a big win. If the low/medium speeds are not present, then we'll visit the micro switch issue.

BTW, while you have the passenger blower assembly out, there is a ground lug on the firewall. CLEAN IT!!! It's the best opportunity you will have. Dirty/contaminated ground points will cause all kinds of headaches on these vehicles, clean the grounds frequently.

Could you see ac control lights coming on and/or
fans turn on for some 1/4 second and than stop?
My one did and I had to rebuild switch myself , something in his interriors broke off and the thing didnt switch anything
As far as i remember, i did some "watchmaker" job inside, probably stucking there extra switch, few years on and it is still working, changed little back light bulbs while there too
You gonna need some soldering skills and patience if you decide to go for it
Of course it could be anything else

Thanks for all your advice. It turned out to be a bad blower motor. I bought a used one on ebay and it worked. Driver side done and now going in to do the passenger side. I was lucky to find a new one on ebay. I will clean the ground post you mentioned. Thanks again!
