I can't get it up...
Not what you were thinking eh?
The power antenna on my XJ40 is sticking, it doesn't retract all the way with about ten inches remaining up. When the radio is on, the next section onlyextends another six or so, then the mast stops. I've cleaned a bit of rust from the part that still works, but am out of ideas as how to free the antenna fully. Yanking on it has no effect. Is there a fix? Or does one simply replace the entire unit with and aftermarket one? If so would you suggest a new power unit, or go with a fixed mast.

Mine just did the same as well.Just cleaned the smudges off the mast .If I were you -dont know if it fits- I would get an aftermarket antenna .New ones are small and just bolted on and no moves up/down .
Yeah, Mine still tries to extend and retract, but I can't get it to go further even with a firm tug. I don't want to force it and ideally would like to keep the existing one and get it functional, but if it's not repairable I'll likely replace it with a suitable fixed mast. The only reason I can see someone wanting a power antenna is I'm assuming automatic car washes, which my cat will never see again as long asIkeep her.
You sir have a dirty mind...what the heck did you think I was refering to? I was talking about the inability of my Jags antenna to fully erect.
nudge nudge Besides it got your attention didn't it? A little missdirection perhaps, but surely nothing unclean.

You should be able to get away replacing the mast only. You probably have a spot where some of the teeth wore away on the drive cable.

Yeah, it seems to be jamming though. It powers up a few inches, then cuts out. When I shut the radio of, it retracts to the prior postion then again seems to trip off.I'm thinking the culprit is corosion on the mast itself, but there's no way to fully extend it to clean it.
Just keep in mind an aftermarket power antenna will not work with any jaguar.
My antenna is also busted, it is up like 2 slots but does not retract or extend.
If you find a suitable fixed antenna if you would be so kind xj40ish as to tell me the model antenna and how you installed it.
All the antennas I saw at pep boys and auto zone did not look good.

I've found the same thing. Plus any replacement antennas seem to have a different connection than the Jag. I'd be ok if I could get mine to exend a little further so it gets clear reception, but as it is now it's very poor.
I'm going to install a stationary antenna later today, it was onlya few bucks, but it is gunna look bad. EW purchased it a while ago tho. Ken told me his company sells the original mast for the XJ40 antenna, maybe PM him about it. But shipping to england may be pricy
Got a replacement mast on ebay from Antenna MastsRus.com $16.70 usd. They have all models replacement items for Jags. Might be worth a look if your antenna's acting up. Cheaper than an aftermarket non power unit.
I already put an aftermarket non power antena up, it was 13 bucks. IDk if my power thing was still working or not, and if maybe the antenna was just broken, but I'm done with it. This was much easier
Yeah I hear you, I just couldn't find one I liked, and as the Jag's motor still works, it's simplest to change the mast. A few minutes, and presto! To me it's like replacing the hood cat with a cadillac emblem. Tryin to keep the kitty all cat...

Couldn't get mine up last winter.....turned out to be ice...lol.
Anyway, the wonder drug of the automotive world, WD-40, works quite well. With the antennae in the down position, get some down in there, let it soak down.
