i hope anyone can tell me what this is
Hi
I have a jaguar xj40 vanden plas 1992, and it is a usa version, and on the left side in the engine room there is a strange box. I send some
photos on it. One pipe is not connected maybe it should be that. but i can not find any loose hose nearby.
Hope anyone can give some clue what it is.
i plug the hose as i am not sure if something is missing there or not

That is your speed control actuator. It is an air pump to pull vacuum for the throttle.
Speed Control Actuator - Jaguar Classic
Those hoses can split, as can the bellows, causing inoperative speed control. The open tube is supposed to be open for air flow.
This is a simillar system to the X300 which I am most familiar with.
